In this blog post, I will discuss my writing process. This will include how I approach writing assignments from receiving the prompt to the final submission.
"You can always edit a bad page. You can't edit a blank page."
Jodi Picoult
How it all Begins...
I receive a prompt and most likely do not directly know where to go from there. After spending a significant amount of time analyzing the prompt, I begin doing some research on similar prompts to get an idea of the assignment’s requirements. During this research phase, I may look at pieces of writing that answer the prompt or look into what specific pieces of writings should include. For example, for my first English 101 project, I am required to write a literacy and learning narrative. In order for me to produce my best work, I will have to start by researching the different conventions of structures, references, and languages to include in my paper.
My English 101 teacher, Ms. Alyssa Jennings uploads very helpful powerpoint to our class webpage that include useful information to our writing. For example, the slide pictured below will help me to remember some examples of conventions of structure, reference, and language to include in my first major assignment for my English class.

The Next Step...
After researching the prompt, I will begin thinking about what I want to write about and how to best convey my information. I wish that I could say that I always plan my essays and similar assignments out on paper, but I do not. However, when I do so I find that writing the essay becomes a little bit easier. For my literacy and learning narrative, I will plan my paper out in hopes that the results will be positive. Once I get a plan in my head or on paper, I begin to write. I tend to not be able to complete an essay in one sitting, as I find myself rambling or getting repetitive. Therefore, I take my paper a couple paragraphs at a time, editing as I go. It is always very helpful for me to get critics on my writing because I know that many aspects of my writing can be improved.

Finally...
After completing my full piece, I read it, edit it, and re-read it until I feel that I have successfully completed the assignment. It often times takes me a while to turn in my writing assignments, as I am constantly wanting to change things to try and improve the essay. With each essay that I write, I hope to improve my ability to write impactful and well-written essays.
Note to Self...
Be confident in the writer that you are becoming.
