The Happiest Place on Earth

While you may expect this blog post to be about Disney World or Norway, for me, one of the happiest places on Earth is CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington.

THIS is CenturyLink Field.

Back Story

CenturyLink field is home to the Seattle Seahawks. Beginning in the fifth grade, I grew a love for the Seahawks due to an assignment where we were given a professional team to follow and were expected to keep track of their records, in attempt to learn about ratios. I was assigned the Seattle Seahawks. Although the Seahawks did not have an amazing ratio that season for me to report back to my classmates, I grew a liking for the team, unlike any team ever before. In middle school, I made it a personal goal to save enough money to be able to fund a trip for myself to fly to Seattle and attend a Seahawks game. By the time I was a sophomore in high school, I fully funded my own trip to Seattle, Washington with the main purpose of watching the Seahawks play one of their divisional rivals, the Arizona Cardinals at CenturyLink field. My wonderful father came with me.

Here is a look at what the weekend with my dad looked like:

CenturyLink Field

It is well known throughout the National Football League community of fans that CenturyLink field houses some of the rowdiest, most intense fans in the league. The fans have coined the term the "12th Man", as they actually serve a large roll in helping to defeat opposing teams. On October 16, 2016, I experienced my first and only Seahawks game at CenturyLink field and it is truly a memory that I hope to never forget. The Seahawks did come out with a win, but the experience would have been insanely awesome no matter the outcome of the game. The way that the fans supported the team and the positivity I felt upon entering the stadium were experiences in themselves.

The Design Elements of CenturyLink Field

The Seattle Seahawks colors are composed of navy blue and an electric, lime green. The colors are incorporated in the field, and on the wings of the stadium. By not making everything in sight the colors blue and green, it allows for the stadium to also serve as a neutral event center that many famous artists perform at, such as Taylor Swift. The architect chose to make the stadium have winglike features in order to increase the noise level, which in turn has a positive affect on the home teams playing at CenturyLink Field. The winglike features also play an important role when it rains. The fans who are lucky enough to be under the wings do not get rained on during game times, which is more likely than not to happen in Seattle. Another feature within CenturyLink that really stood out to me was the section entry design. Before each game, the Seattle Seahawks tap a saying on the wall that says "I'm In". "I'm In" is painted in each sections breezeway, this allows for the fans to jump up and tap the saying, just as if they are a part of the team.

"I truly believe in positive synergy, that your positive mindset gives you a more hopeful outlook, and belief that you can do something great means you will do something great."
Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks quarterback
