The Smithsonian website publishes writings of many different disciplines, one of which includes science. As my article adaptation is relating to science in the way of measuring the stress hormones of people from different backgrounds, I find it appropriate to include my adaptation in the Smithsonian magazine or on the Smithsonian website.
The Smithsonian website includes many different kinds of writings at a level that is easily understood by the general public, which is why I think my adaptation should be included on the website. I am in the process of writing a scholarly adaptation of an article that is focused around the fact that military personnel who are struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder can boost their cortisol levels up to a healthy standard via the company and use of a trained service dog.

In order for my adaption to be included on the Smithsonian website, there are many rhetorical conventions in which I find it necessary to include. To begin with, I will need to include an interesting hook in order to start my readers off engaged. After opening my adaptation with a nice hook, I will be sure to include language that is friendly to the average reader of an article published by Smithsonian. I am doing this because I do not want for my readers to have to do any additional research on my topic or the terms that I use. Another rhetorical convention that I will be sure to include is hedged language. I find that this is important so that the readers to not get the impression that I am an expert on my topic that I chose in any way. I want to be sure that error is accounted for by using words such as "might", "may", "could", etc.
My adaptation of the article "The Effect of a Service Dog on Salivary Cortisol Awakening Response in a Military Population With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)" needs a lot of improvement before being suffient for publishing but with the help of my peers reviewing and my teacher reviewing the adaptation, I hope that the essay is impressive enough to be read by many people.
